Recently, I was assigned to write a story using Cowbird and talk about my experiences:
Perusing Cowbird’s website and looking through the stories of the ‘citizens’ I noticed that it is like a twitpic that extends the 140 characters. The picture has a lot more words behind it using this site. In terms of its social media existence I feel like it has its niche in the world of social media, but a very small niche at that, which brings questions if it can survive the swaying taste’s of the 21st century. I do like the idea of it, but personally I wouldn’t and don’t use it mainly because I’m not the blogging type. Ultimately this is the perfect spot for an amateur blogger not interested in the layout, but more interested in the content of their blog.
How does Pinterest make money?…
… OR are they not interested in making money? Seen here is a support answer from Pinterest under the instant answers on their site.
So they’re not interested in it…so what does that mean? They want to make it more valuable for the long-run? As it stands right now it would probably go to crap if they opened it up for free advertising. I think until they find a way to grab more of a male population then I think they could be fully functional and more importantly valuable for the long-run pressures.
Pinterest: just for girls?
Can Pinterest be used to market, collect data from, or generate value among more than women?
I think Pinterest is more than equipped to generate value, but only to women. With the type of content being more centered around women’s tastes, there is no desire for men to venture into that market. For Pinterest to attract more men to their site I think they would need to redesign their website for a more neutral feel to it. And also there are reports saying that women like having a site with more females on it?
Again, here is the link for the pinterest board I did for a project: http://pinterest.com/claybutler1/clemson-athletics/
- As you can see my board lacks the creative luster seen in most boards.
Another meeting with Clemson Athletics
On Thursday we had the guys from Clemson Athletics back in our class to present the ideas of the class to them. They were very receptive to our ideas and wanted to pursue some of them in the next couple of game weekends.
Here is what we proposed to them:
- Instagram-ing a Clemson Gameday
- Viral Video
- Photo Contests
- Visual Hub
- Tiger Den
Out of all of these they were really interested in the Tiger Den and setting up an Instagram channel for Clemson Gamedays. The job they have is tough because increasing social media awareness is just another added task on their job description. So having our class come in and support them and suggest new ways to project Clemson Athletics’ voice was really encouraging to them.
After class they talked to me about being the student that is in charge of the Instagram account and working with them on gamedays. This was exciting to hear that I will have a small part in Clemson’s social media voice.
My dad got his first deer of the season this morning so I wanted to post a couple of pictures…
Maryland vs Clemson game
As a class we are doing a project on and partnering with Clemson Athletics. We want to implement a social media strategy so more fans are aware of Clemson. Our group proposed the following:
“For the Clemson-Maryland game we want to have someone down on the field taking pictures to put on instagram. We think this is a good strategy for getting Clemson Athletics brand through different social media points. Instagram is very popular with college students and they know how to navigate through this application. Through instagram, Clemson Athletics can post pictures of different viewpoints throughout the game to give fans a different perspective on the game. Most people can retrieve these photos in the stadium as well. We want people to see what a Clemson game day looks like from the sidelines, press boxes, and even from the upper deck. “
Social Media: Clemson Athletics
In class we had the guys that are responsible for keeping up with Clemson’s social media sites. As a class we want to help them get their name out there and get more followers.
I feel as if they have a hit a plateau in their followers on twitter so proposing that they tweet about give-aways and events can help increase their following. They are trying to make Clemson Basketball’s “Rock the John” a huge event and some of the suggestions we proposed to them as a class are being seen on their timeline. They are using the #RTJ for this event so please follow this tag and get the word out about this event.
In the days ahead we are making it an effort to increase awareness for the Clemson vs. Maryland game and coming up with events leading up to the game!
